iOpener Consultant and Personal Impact Specialist Simon de Cintra has recently published a brilliant new business book entitled “Unlock Your Business Voice”.
We spoke to Simon to find out more about the book and his tips for improving business communication.
Simon, what inspired you to write this book?
“For years, I have been fascinated by business communication. There are people in business that others listen to intently, buy into their ideas and act upon them. Yet these people often have very little to say or their thoughts are not the most original nor insightful. Meanwhile, others simply can’t find the words to share their expertise. There is something about the way some people order and deliver their message that makes them more compelling to the audience. Yet this isn’t some intrinsic gift – it is something that can be learned. There is a specific set of behaviours that can be re-created by anyone.”
What is the secret to effective business communication then Simon?
“The book outlines my 5 step process My Business Voice methodology which anyone can follow. It’s a practical and simple approach to increasing your competence and confidence in business communication, whether it’s a one-to-one conversation or speaking to hundreds at an industry conference. There are simple exercises and snapshot lessons alongside tips and advice that will undoubtedly aid any Expert Introvert to achieve an empowered business voice and ensure everyone gets heard.”
What is the best advice you can give to someone struggling to find their business voice?
“Many years ago someone said to me ‘beautifully said, but didn’t believe a word’. This really hit home and made me realise that our words are only such a small part of any communication. The way we say it has much more impact. Since then I have been inspired to find out what makes people believe and to share those tips with the world.”
Julia Lindsay, CEO of iOpener has already read the book. She called the book a ‘triumph of practicality’, saying: “This book is easy to read, easy to understand; with easy-to-do activities that work. What resonated most for me out of all of Simon’s tips was the importance of having total clarity of intent. Simon asserts that ‘When you are clear about your intention your content becomes more potent’. He takes the reader through a step-by-step process to achieve that. The tips related to status are also spot on and helpful. This book really goes to the heart of leading to get things done and make progress every day of the week, not just in big speeches or announcements.”
